Spice It Up!

Jogging is boring, right? I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve heard that. But it doesn’t have to be! There are hundreds of ways to make your daily / weekly jog that much more interesting. Here are a few things you can do to spice it up.

1) Jog to music. There’s nothing better than running along and singing your head off to your favourite stuff. Just make sure you don’t listen to too fast-paced music. This will make your run faster, which, in turn, might do you in. I once listened to Iron Maiden, as an example. Never again…

2) Jog with a mate. Preferably someone who is just starting to jog and is still quite unfit. This is an immense boost to your confidence. While you stride along with minimal effort, watch your friend pant like a hound! Watch passerby point and stare and say “wow, look how fit the one who doesn’t look like he’s about to drop dead is!”Or just take a friend who can actually jog. That way you won’t need to stop every five minutes–

3) Jog in a nature reserve. You’d be surprised how many nature reserves there are. Just have a look online. Even in places like The Big Smoke (aka London) there are reserves tucked away which are wonderful places to see while jogging.

4) Incorporate pull-ups in to your jogging routine. To begin with you’ll only be able to do a few, but after a while you’ll be a regular Rambo! Pull-ups are also good because they allow your heart-rate to come down a bit. Not only that, but they give those hard-done-by legs a break.

Finally, I need to congratulate myself. I have just bought the greatest asics running shoes that I have ever owned. Toronto Marathon, here I come!
