Nice surprise!
Isn’t it nice when you run further, or faster than you had expected?
My bike was stolen recently, snipped straight through the lock, so in spite I decided to run the 5 1/2 miles to work. I allowed myself plenty of time for the run (I’d anticipated just over an hour) and to have a shower at work to hose down after what would inevitably be a sweaty affair, regardless of how fast I ran!
With all this in mind, I strapped on my asics running shoes, packed my rucksack and off I set, feeling pretty good about it all. I often run at the gym, but for no more than ten minutes – and running on a treadmill is always so different to running on roads. The route was straightforward, as I took the same route I had cycled in the past. A few hills to tackle, but really nothing major.
The only annoyance was my rucksack, which in retrospect was not really built for running. The straps are just a little too close together where they meet the actual bag, and so as I ran and the bag jumped up and down I ended up with some nice red marks on my neck where it had rubbed.
It was probably around half way through that I realized I was going as fast as I was. I had my iPhone tracking my run pace, but I was unable to look at it on the go to confirm my suspicion, which was that I was running as a similar pace to my usual gym speed. Arriving at work only 46 minutes after I set off confirmed my suspicions, and meant that I beat the rain. Ideal.
The whole experience was really rather rewarding, although it takes it out of you a bit more than cycling!
