Cross Country Running
Cross country running can be extremely exciting. You experience wind, snow, rain, sliding, falling, dirt and tripping during this sport. If you want to improve your ability in cross country running follow these following tips.
You should familiarize yourself with the terrain you are going to run on. Cross country running is not like running on flat solid cement and road; you will need to be able to deal with tough environments like slick muddy tracks. It would serve you well to work out on trails, through woods and off the beaten path.
You should also familiarize yourself with the weather during running. The conditions could be rainy, cool or sunny. You must try to jog in uncomfortable weather to gain the feel for what it will be like when you compete. This way if you practice in experience bad weather then at the competition you will need very little adjusting.
The most challenging part of cross country is that you will need different running speeds you. Some may try to rush ahead of you by doing sudden sprints and you may be looking at them running ahead thinking I can’t beat them however if you practice based on the terrain you will be able to overtake them. They might wear themselves out going up a hill or mountain but on the way down you can overtake them. You will also need to have different tempos of running and this will need to be practiced. You can practice by doing fartlek which is a training session where you put in several tempo changes.
