Running and Hematuria

Even though it’s not a widely talked about condition, but blood in urine after running a marathon affects nearly 90% of athletes. It is accompanied with pain in the lower abdomen and at times one might even find blood clots. The condition is called hematuria and can also be an indicator of various other hidden health issues. In many cases if the person would rest for a couple of days, it would subside but in case if it does not subside after a period of two days then it is high time to get it checked by a nephrologist. I am an athlete and one day, after an early morning running session, I went with out with my cousin who wanted to get some Accident USA compensation. While we were sitting over there suddenly I felt like pissing and when I went to the loo and pissed I saw my urine in a pinkish colour, I was scared. I spoke to my coach and took rest for a couple of days and everything was fine and normal.
There are two kind of hematuria, one is called microscopic hematuria and the other macroscopic hematuria. Microscopic hematuria is not dangerous, even within the urine of healthy people blood clots can be found by the use of a microscope. The point of worry starts when the urine colour is in between pink and red, this would indicate macroscopic hematuria. This could indicate issues with the kidney, since the red blood cells have leaked into the urine. If it is some internal infection then it can be treated by taking antibiotics and in case if it’s due to stones, then cystoscopy or biopsy can be performed. But always keep in mind that in many cases hematuria could be resolved simply by taking rest for a couple of days. Do not ignore rest.
